Kichudin Mone Mone is a traditional Baul folk song brought to The Bengal Files (September 2025) by Parvathy Baul — one of India's foremost Baul practitioners — in an arrangement co-developed with film composer Rohit Sharma. The song was the first single released from the film's soundtrack, its 3:12 duration carrying the haunting, meditative quality of the Baul tradition. Against The Bengal Files' investigation of silenced histories, the song's theme of secrets held in the heart gains an extra layer of meaning.

Parvathy Baul performs Kichudin Mone Mone on the ektara — the single-stringed folk instrument central to Baul practice — accompanied by duggi and khamak. The production preserves the rawness of the Baul tradition: no polished reverb, no orchestral augmentation. Her voice, trained across decades of Baul sadhana, negotiates between singing and speaking, between music and prayer. The ad-lib version on the album runs slightly shorter and captures the spontaneous, in-the-moment quality of Baul performance.

The Baul tradition addresses the body as the universe and the heart as the site of all spiritual seeking. 'Kichudin mone mone' — 'some days, within the heart' — suggests a hidden duration, a private time of searching that cannot be shared or explained. In the film's context, it maps onto the private grief of a community whose history was suppressed.

Vivek Agnihotri reached out to Parvathy Baul specifically because the Baul tradition — with its roots in syncretic, non-institutional spirituality — represents an aspect of Bengal's culture that survived partition and violence intact. Her involvement was both artistic and symbolic: a living carrier of an unbroken tradition.

Kichudin Mone Mone brought Parvathy Baul to the attention of a mainstream Hindi film audience, many of whom had not previously encountered the Baul tradition through popular media.
