Anvita Dutt is a lyricist, screenwriter and film director born in 1972 in New Delhi. After fourteen years in advertising she entered Hindi cinema through Yash Raj Films, quickly becoming one of the industry's busiest writers of lyrics and dialogue. Her songwriting credits run through some of the biggest mainstream soundtracks of the 2000s and 2010s — Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Dostana (2008), Badmaash Company (2010), Student of the Year (2012), Queen (2014) and Phillauri (2017) among them — alongside extensive screenplay and dialogue work for Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions and other banners; her 2012 work earned a Mirchi Music Award for Listeners' Choice Album of the Year. In 2020 she made a striking directorial debut with the Netflix gothic fable Bulbbul, set in 19th-century Bengal, and followed it with Qala (2022), a psychological period drama about a singer in the 1940s music world — both praised for their feminist gaze and painterly craft. She continues to write for mainstream cinema: her 2025 credits include 'Dil Musafir', 'Mudh Ja Raahiye' and 'Naseeba' from the Dharma romance Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
