The film survives today chiefly through its musical record rather than a documented plot — its surviving traces are the eight-song soundtrack composed by Saraswati Devi, the first woman to lead the music department of a Hindi film studio.

The score carries eight songs, all written by lyricist Gafil Harnalvi and composed by Saraswati Devi. The vocal roster is led by Rajkumari, then one of the busiest playback voices of the early-to-mid 1940s, supported by Menka Bai and the actor-singer Paresh Bannerjee, who sang several of his own numbers.

सरस्वती देवी, जन्म-नाम ख़ुर्शीद मिनोचर-होमजी (1912–1980), किसी बड़े हिंदी स्टूडियो (बॉम्बे टॉकीज़, जहाँ उन्होंने अछूत कन्या का संगीत दिया) में संगीत-विभाग की कमान सँभालने वाली पहली महिला थीं। 1944 तक वे छोटे प्रोडक्शनों में काम कर रही थीं; डॉ. कुमार इन्हीं बाद के कामों में से एक है। पूरी गीत-पुस्तिका गीतकार ग़ाफ़िल हरनालवी ने सँभाली।

Saraswati Devi, born Khorshed Minocher-Homji (1912–1980), had been the first woman to head music at a major Hindi studio (Bombay Talkies, where she scored Achhut Kanya). By 1944 she was working across smaller productions; Dr. Kumar is one of these later assignments. The lyricist Gafil Harnalvi handled the complete song book.

Dr. Kumar belongs to the late phase of Saraswati Devi's composing career, after her landmark Bombay Talkies years. As one of the very first female music directors in Indian cinema, every surviving Saraswati Devi soundtrack — including this one — is a primary document of a pioneering career that opened the field to women.
