'Mai Phul Banu' is one of the ten documented songs from Sheikh Chilli (1942), Kikubhai Desai's comedy-fantasy for Paramount Film Company. The title's wish — to become a flower — places it in the soft, romantic-fancy register common to the era's love songs. The lyric is Desai's and the music is by the Khan Mastana–Damodar Sharma team; the playback singer is not preserved.

A tender wishing-song of this kind would conventionally be set to a gentle, flowing melody at a moderate tempo in the early-1940s Bombay studio idiom; the surviving catalogue entry, however, records only the title and credits, not the raga or arrangement.
