The Monographपरिचय Overview

'Naino Se Naina Milao Ji' is one of the six Sawan songs listed in the catalogues without a singer credit. C. Ramchandra composed it to I. C. Kapoor's lyric. The title is an invitation to meet eyes, a gesture that in Hindi and Urdu song functions as a threshold rather than a pleasantry — the moment after which the relationship is understood to have changed.
The Music

No audio survives, so the arrangement cannot be described. The lyric's folk-leaning vocabulary — 'naino', 'ji' — suggests the light regional-flavoured setting that Bombay composers used for courtship songs of this kind in the 1940s: dholak forward, a repeating melodic hook designed to be picked up by the audience, and a tempo brisk enough to feel like play. C. Ramchandra worked comfortably in this idiom throughout his mid-1940s films.
The Poetry

Eye-meeting is one of the load-bearing conventions of the north Indian love lyric. To meet a gaze is to acknowledge feeling; the tradition treats it as a binding gesture, which is why so many songs are built either on asking for it or on reproaching someone who granted it and then withdrew. This title sits on the asking side, and the honorific particle 'ji' at the end keeps the request courteous — the speaker is inviting, not demanding, and doing so within the bounds of propriety. The doubled construction 'naino se naina', eyes with eyes, is a folk-song formula that turns the line into something singable and repeatable, which is usually a sign it was written to work as a refrain. The Hindi Film Geet Kosh preserves the mukhda, which answers its own invitation with a second line asking the addressee not to be shy; nothing beyond that survives.
The Story

Sawan (1945) was produced by Sanjivan Art Productions of Bombay and directed by Dwarka Khosla, with Motilal and Shanta Apte at the head of the cast. C. Ramchandra wrote all nine songs to lyrics by I. C. Kapoor; no plot summary of the film survives in accessible sources, so what is known of its content comes almost entirely from the song titles preserved in the record catalogues. Together with 'Chale Aao Sunau Tumhe' and 'Itna Bhi Humse Na Sharmaiyega', this title forms the courtship cluster of the score — three invitations, none of them a lament — which suggests the film gave a fair amount of screen time to the early, lighter phase of its romance.
The Legacy

The song does not circulate and is not anthologised. What remains is the title in the Geet Kosh-derived listings, useful as one data point in a long line: the eye-meeting song runs continuously through Hindi cinema from the 1930s onward, and this is one of its many now-silent 1945 instances.

Margin Notes'

Three of Sawan's nine titles are courtship invitations rather than laments — this one, 'Chale Aao Sunau Tumhe' and 'Itna Bhi Humse Na Sharmaiyega'.

Singer credit for this song is not preserved. Of Sawan's nine documented songs, three carry a voice credit — 'Barkha Ki Rut Hai' (C. Ramchandra, Kusum Mantri, Hamida Banu and unnamed others, per the Hindi Film Geet Kosh), 'Mori Oonchi Atariya Pe' (Amirbai Karnataki) and 'Hanso Garibo Pe' (Hamida Banu and Khan Mastana) — so the singer field here has been left empty rather than filled by inference.

MySwar lists the Sawan records as a Regal Records release, and hindigeetmala.net catalogues the film's composer as 'Chitalkar Ramchandra' — one of at least four professional signatures C. Ramchandra used in the 1940s, alongside Ram Chitalkar, Annasaheb and, for Marathi films, R. N. Chitalkar. No scan of an actual Sawan disc label has been seen.
