Pandit Amarnath composes the song in a slow, ghazal-leaning register, the melody arcing through the grief of the title line. Zeenat Begum's relatively clear, less heavily ornamented voice gives the betrayal a plaintive directness, contrasting with the denser style of her co-singer Zohrabai Ambalewali across the score.
