The song celebrates the 19th-century partnership of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule — India's pioneering social reformers — as a model of marital equality centuries ahead of its time. Director Anant Mahadevan uses it as the biographical film's emotional centrepiece, underscoring that the couple's world-changing activism was inseparable from their deep personal bond.

Rohan-Rohan's arrangement for Saathi is deliberately understated — piano and acoustic guitar with light strings and flute — prioritising emotional clarity over production spectacle. The restraint is appropriate for a biographical film: ornate arrangements would overwhelm the intimacy of the Phule story. Monali Thakur navigates the melody with the measured tenderness of someone singing about earned love rather than romantic fantasy, her timbre worn in rather than polished.

Kausar Munir's lyric avoids sentimentality by grounding companionship in shared purpose rather than romantic feeling. Monali Thakur was chosen for Saathi because her voice carries an innate warmth that softens the formal-biographical tone the film needed to balance. Rohan-Rohan reportedly worked closely with director Mahadevan to ensure the song could stand alone as an audio release while also functioning as a scene-scoring piece within the film — a dual purpose that influenced the minimalist arrangement.

Released ahead of Jyotirao Phule's birth anniversary (11 April), Saathi circulated widely in educational and social-reform communities on social media. It was used in several tribute videos for Savitribai Phule during 2025, extending the song's life well beyond its theatrical run.
