The Monographपरिचय Overview

'Misle Khyal Aaye The' (opening 'Misl-e-khayaal aaye thhe aa kar chale gaye') is the most literary number in the 1944 film Aaina, an Urdu ghazal-style lament. The Aaina music is credited jointly to Fateh Ali Khan and Gulshan Sufi, and the film's lyrics to Tanveer Naqvi and Pandit Phani; sources do not reliably split either credit song by song. Listings document two recorded versions — one by Kalyani and one by Shama — a common practice in the 78-rpm era when separate takes were issued. The conceit of the beloved arriving 'like a passing thought' is drawn from the classical Urdu ghazal tradition.
The Music

The ghazal text is treated with a slow, contemplative line that foregrounds the Urdu diction, the spare accompaniment serving the poetry rather than competing with it — the period's standard approach to a film's ghazal entry.
