The most elegiac song in the Kesari Veer (2025) soundtrack, 'Marasiya' is composed, written, and sung by Sanchari Sengupta — a rare triple credit that signals deep personal investment. A marsiya (مرثیہ) is a classical Urdu elegiac form, rooted in mourning the martyrdom at Karbala and adapted across centuries for all types of loss. Sengupta's austere arrangement — sarangi, cello, sparse percussion — strips away spectacle to arrive at pure grief, making it the album's quietest and most daring composition.

The production is deliberately spare: sarangi for the ache of string-bowing emotion, cello adding harmonic depth, and minimal percussion to mark rather than drive the rhythm. Sengupta's voice — trained in both Hindustani classical and folk forms — moves through the melody with the controlled restraint of a singer who knows grief is best expressed at half-volume. The composition's avoidance of climax is itself a statement: the truly bereft do not build to release.

The marsiya form, associated with Muharram and Shia mourning traditions, is adapted here for a Hindu Rajput warrior's sacrifice — a cross-religious borrowing that reflects the compositional breadth of the Urdu-Hindi literary tradition.
