रहिमत ख़ान — 'भूगंधर्व', धरती पर उतरा गंधर्व — ग्वालियर के युगप्रवर्तक हद्दू ख़ान के पुत्र थे; दौलत से बेपरवाह घुमक्कड़, जो धारवाड़ अंचल में जा बसे और हिंदुस्तानी संगीत के दक्षिणी वसंत के बीज बो गए। संग्राहक 1910 के दशक की उनकी मुट्ठी भर रिकॉर्डें दर्ज करते हैं; उनके सत्रों की सटीक तारीख़ें आज भी अनिश्चित हैं — और बात असल में यही है: उनका रिकॉर्ड होना ही चमत्कार था।

Rahimat Khan — 'Bhugandharva', the gandharva on earth — was the son of the Gwalior pioneer Haddu Khan, a wanderer indifferent to wealth who settled in the Dharwad region and seeded Hindustani music's great southern flowering. Collectors document a small clutch of discs by him from the 1910s; their exact session dates remain uncertain, which is itself the point — that he recorded at all is the miracle.
