The Monographपरिचय Overview

Galat Karam (ग़लत करम) is a Hindi-Hinglish hip-hop single by Uttar Pradesh rapper Panther (of MTV Hustle 2.0 fame) and Def Jam India artist Raga, released on 9 November 2023 as the lead single from Panther's mixtape 'Flying Towards the City'. Produced and arranged by Panther alongside Kohar, Retro Blxxd and Nitin Randhawa, the track pairs an old-school, drum-driven beat with sharp, boastful verses from both rappers, and became one of the year's most-streamed Indian hip-hop drops, with its official video crossing 40+ million YouTube views. Its bouncy hook and quotable bars made it a fixture of Instagram Reels and DJ sets through late 2023 and 2024, cementing Panther's post-Hustle rise and further building Raga's reputation as one of Def Jam India's most consistent hitmakers.
The Music

Galat Karam is built on an old-school, drum-forward boom-bap foundation — production credited to Panther himself alongside Kohar, Retro Blxxd, and Nitin Randhawa. The beat leans on punchy, vintage-style drums rather than the trap-heavy sound dominating much of contemporary Desi hip-hop, giving the track a retro street-rap texture that both rappers ride with a confident, unhurried flow. Panther and Raga trade verses rather than duet melodically, with the hook built for repetition and crowd call-back — a structure engineered for live sets and short-form video clips alike.
The Poetry

The title phrase 'galat karam' (wrong deeds) frames the song's central swagger: an unapologetic ownership of past mistakes and hustle-era compromises, delivered in the confident, code-switching Hindi-Urdu-English register typical of contemporary Desi hip-hop. Rather than confession or regret, the lyric turns 'wrongdoing' into a badge of survival and success — a common trope in street rap where the come-up justifies the means.
The Story

Galat Karam arrived as the lead single from Panther's mixtape 'Flying Towards the City', released 9 November 2023 — his first major independent drop after gaining national visibility on MTV Hustle 2.0, the hip-hop reality competition that introduced him as a rapper from Uttar Pradesh with a distinctive street-rap style. The collaboration with Raga, an established Def Jam India artist known for tracks like Kheench Maari and GTA NCR, paired an emerging Hustle-era name with a more established label artist, a common strategy in the Desi hip-hop scene for cross-pollinating fanbases.
The Legacy
