1926 के दौरान वेस्टर्न इलेक्ट्रिक प्रक्रिया भारतीय सूचियों तक पहुँची: अचानक तवा वह सुनने लगा जो भोंपू कभी न सुन सका — वाक्यांश से पहले की साँस, धीमे 'रे' का रेशा, आवाज़ के इर्द-गिर्द कमरा। इंजीनियरों ने पुराने-नए सितारों को दोबारा काटा; श्रोता कहते थे, गायक 'जैसे पास बैठा हो'। भारत में आधुनिक रिकॉर्डेड ध्वनि यहीं से शुरू होती है।

Engineers re-cut stars old and new; listeners spoke of hearing singers 'as if beside them'. Modern recorded sound in India begins here.
