चोट दिल पे लगी

Chot Dil Pe Lagi (चोट दिल पे लगी) is the romantic centrepiece of Ishq Vishk Rebound (2024), Tips Films' spiritual sequel to the 2003 teen-romance Ishq Vishk that had launched Shahid Kapoor. Composed by Rochak Kohli with new lyrics by Gurpreet Saini and sung as a duet by Asees Kaur and Varun Jain, the track is a contemporary recreation of the beloved 2003 original — 'Chot Dil Pe Lagi', composed by Anu Malik and written by Sameer, then sung by Alisha Chinai and Kumar Sanu. Released by Tips Music on 6 June 2024, ahead of the film's 21 June 2024 theatrical release, the song is picturized on the film's young leads Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan (in her acting debut), Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal, and consciously reaches back to the nostalgic warmth of the original while re-dressing it for a Gen-Z audience.

Rochak Kohli builds his version of Chot Dil Pe Lagi as a soft, mid-tempo pop-romance — acoustic guitar and warm strings under a clean, radio-friendly production (music produced by Aditya Dev) that keeps the original's melodic contour recognisable while smoothing away its early-2000s arrangement. Asees Kaur's clear, emotive upper register carries the yearning, answered by Varun Jain's grounded, softer male line, so the recreation plays as a genuine duet-conversation rather than a solo. The result is the modern Bollywood recreation template applied with restraint — the hook stays faithful enough to trigger nostalgia in listeners who grew up with the 2003 song, while the texture is unmistakably contemporary.

Gurpreet Saini's lyric keeps the original's title refrain — the image of a 'chot' (a wound, a blow) landing on the heart as the metaphor for love striking unexpectedly — and rebuilds fresh verses of hesitant, first-love uncertainty around it: stars that seem crazed, a stranger who will one day be known, an unseasonal rain, a new-found peace. The writing lives in the space between resistance and surrender ('der se hi sahi' — 'late though it may be'), the classic Hindi-film posture of a heart that argues with itself before giving in. It is deliberately simple, conversational and youthful, matching the film's Gen-Z framing while honouring Sameer's original conceit that love arrives as a sweet injury.

Ishq Vishk Rebound (2024) is a romantic comedy-drama directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Jaya Taurani under Tips Films — a spiritual sequel to the 2003 hit Ishq Vishk, which had launched Shahid Kapoor. The film follows a four-way tangle of young love and stars Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan (cousin of Hrithik Roshan, making her acting debut), Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal. Chot Dil Pe Lagi is picturized on this quartet as the film's tender romantic set-piece, and its choice as a recreation of the 2003 original is itself part of the sequel's marketing logic: reviving one of the most-loved songs of the first film to bridge the older audience's nostalgia with the new film's Gen-Z love story. The song's video, released on Tips Music's channel on 6 June 2024, arrived a fortnight before the 21 June 2024 theatrical release.

As a recreation, Chot Dil Pe Lagi sits inside one of 2020s Bollywood's most-debated trends — reviving older hits for new films — and it does so with unusual continuity, since both the 2003 original and the 2024 version live under the same Tips banner. The track drew millions of views on release and functioned as the emotional anchor of the Ishq Vishk Rebound soundtrack alongside the film's other singles. Its longer legacy is inseparable from the 2003 original's: for a generation, 'chot dil pe lagi' remains shorthand for the sweet hurt of first love, and this version's job is to carry that phrase forward to listeners who never saw Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao's Ishq Vishk. Whether it eclipses the original is unlikely — but as a bridge between two eras of the same franchise, it is a clean example of the nostalgia-recreation strategy done in-house.
