अनु मलिक

Anu Malik (born Anwar Sardar Malik on 2 November 1960 in Mumbai) is one of Hindi cinema's most prolific music directors, with a career spanning five decades. The son of composer Sardar Malik, he grew up inside the film-music world and began composing in the late 1970s, but it was the mid-1980s hit Mard (1985) that established him. Through the 1990s he became one of Bollywood's busiest composers, and Baazigar (1993) won him his first Filmfare Award for Best Music Director. Scores for Border (1997), Refugee (2000) and Main Hoon Na (2004) — which brought him a second Filmfare trophy — deepened his reputation, and Refugee earned him the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. Known for tuneful, singable melodies that often draw on classical and folk idioms, and for an unusually fast working style, he has also sung playback on many of his own compositions. Television audiences know him equally well as a long-running judge on the singing reality show Indian Idol. Malik belongs to a thoroughly musical family: his brother Daboo Malik is a composer, and his nephews Amaal Mallik and Armaan Malik are prominent names in today's film music. He has remained active as a composer into the mid-2020s, with fresh film credits continuing well into the decade.
