बेकार दिल

Bekaar Dil (बेकार दिल) is the tender romantic ballad tucked away as the sixth and final track of the Fighter (2024) soundtrack — the one song from the album that never made it into the film. Composed by Vishal–Shekhar, written by Kumaar and led by Vishal Mishra and Shilpa Rao (with additional voices Diljit Dosanjh and Aziz Naza lending the track its Sufi-qawwali colour), the song was cut from the theatrical print by India's Central Board of Film Certification, which deemed the picturized romance between Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone too explicit for release. T-Series held it back and put it out only as a digital release after Fighter opened in cinemas on 25 January 2024 — the official full video arriving on 16 February 2024. On download platforms the Vishal Mishra–Shilpa Rao duet also circulates under the alternate title 'Dil Chah Raha Hai'.

Vishal–Shekhar frame Bekaar Dil as a slow-to-mid-tempo romantic ballad that leans on a Sufi-qawwali texture rather than the anthemic bombast of Fighter's lead singles like 'Sher Khul Gaye'. Vishal Mishra's plaintive, ache-forward male vocal trades lines with Shilpa Rao's warm, textured voice, while Diljit Dosanjh and Aziz Naza add the qawwali-inflected colour that pushes the arrangement toward devotional-romantic territory. It is the album's most intimate, least action-driven cue — a deliberate contrast to the fighter-jet adrenaline that defines the rest of the score.

Kumaar builds the lyric around a wry central conceit: the heart as a 'bekaar dil' — a good-for-nothing, idle organ that has gone and fallen in love without the lover's permission. The opening couplet 'Ishq thoda thoda dono jagah / Dono ik dooje ke hone lage' (a little love on both sides, both beginning to belong to each other) sets up a mutual, unstoppable pull, and the hook 'Dil chah raha hai ya kisi pe aa raha hai' plays on the helplessness of desire. It is classic Kumaar — colloquial, hummable Hindustani that turns a small self-deprecating joke about one's own heart into a full romantic surrender.

Fighter (2024), directed by Siddharth Anand and produced under his Marflix Pictures banner with Viacom18 Studios, is India's first aerial-action film, starring Hrithik Roshan as Squadron Leader Shamsher 'Patty' Pathania, Deepika Padukone as Squadron Leader Minni 'Minal' Rathore, and Anil Kapoor. Bekaar Dil was picturized as the romance between Patty and Minni — but the sequence was flagged by the CBFC and dropped from the theatrical cut, one of two songs (alongside 'Ishq Jaisa Kuch') pulled from the film's footage for being deemed too intimate. As a result the track exists chiefly as a standalone music release: T-Series issued it digitally after the film's 25 January 2024 opening, with the full video landing on 16 February 2024. Fighter itself went on to record one of the biggest opening days for a Hindi film in 2024.

As the 'hidden' sixth track of a chart-topping soundtrack, Bekaar Dil occupies an unusual niche in the Fighter story — the song audiences had to seek out on streaming rather than encounter in the theatre. Its removal by the censor board became a minor talking point in the film's release-week coverage, giving the track a curiosity value beyond its own gentle romance. Anchored by Vishal Mishra and Shilpa Rao — two of contemporary Hindi film music's most reliable romantic voices — and dressed in a Sufi-qawwali arrangement, it stands as the softest, most inward moment of an otherwise high-octane Vishal–Shekhar score, and a reminder of how often India's certification process reshapes which songs a film's audience actually gets to see.
