Babul (बाबुल) is one of three bonus tracks — alongside Bata De Sakhi and Rabb Jeya Sohnaa — composed by Monty Sharma for Gadar 2's extended soundtrack, released by Zee Music Company on 8 September 2023, roughly a month after Anil Sharma's blockbuster sequel opened theatrically on 11 August 2023. Written by Sunil Sirvaiya and sung by Asees Kaur, Babul draws on the well-established Hindi film tradition of the 'babul' bidaai (farewell) song — a genre stretching back to classics like Babul Ki Duaayen Leti Ja — in which a daughter addresses her father as she prepares to leave her childhood home. Unlike the film's high-profile promotional singles composed mainly by Mithoon, Babul belongs to the supplementary album and did not receive a standalone music video release with the same promotional push, functioning instead as a soundtrack deep cut that rounds out Gadar 2's emotional and familial register alongside its war-and-romance narrative.

Monty Sharma frames Babul in the folk-bidaai idiom — a spare, largely acoustic arrangement built to foreground Asees Kaur's voice rather than compete with it. Kaur, one of contemporary Bollywood's most prolific playback singers, brings a controlled, emotive delivery well suited to the genre's slow build and restrained instrumentation, consistent with how bidaai songs are traditionally staged in Hindi cinema — as an intimate vocal moment rather than an orchestral set piece.

Sunil Sirvaiya's lyric follows the well-worn but emotionally durable structure of the babul-bidaai song: the daughter addresses her father directly, naming the home (ghar), the courtyard (angana) and the path (rasta) she now leaves behind as she departs with her husband (sajna). The vocabulary is deliberately simple and domestic, drawing its power from specificity — the courtyard, the doorway, the household objects of childhood — rather than elaborate metaphor, in keeping with the genre's roots in real wedding folk traditions.

Gadar 2 revisits Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakeena (Ameesha Patel) two decades after the original film, as their son Charanjeet 'Jeete' (Utkarsh Sharma) comes of age amid the 1971 India-Pakistan war and his own romance with Muskaan (Simratt Kaur). Babul, along with the other Monty Sharma-composed extended-album tracks, was written for the film's quieter familial and romantic beats — the kind of wedding/farewell moment that recurs across the Gadar franchise's melodramatic, family-centred storytelling, distinct from the louder, crowd-facing patriotic anthems built around Sunny Deol's Tara Singh.

As a bonus track on the extended soundtrack rather than a promoted single, Babul did not chart independently and its official Zee Music Company video has drawn a modest view count relative to Gadar 2's blockbuster singles like Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava and Khairiyat. Its significance lies in continuing the long Hindi-film tradition of the babul-bidaai song within one of 2023's highest-grossing releases, and in showcasing Asees Kaur's range beyond the upbeat pop numbers she is more widely known for.
