The most remembered number from Saugandh (1942), 'Ab Aayi Basant Bahaar' is sung by the actor-singer Asit Baran, who also performs it on screen. Set to R. C. Boral's melody and Pandit Natwar's verse, the song belongs to the New Theatres tradition of the seasonal lyric, where the arrival of spring stands in for the rekindling of feeling in a life that had run barren. It survives today as a touchstone of 1940s Calcutta-studio music.

The medium-paced, harmonium-anchored setting is characteristic of Boral's Calcutta-school approach to the seasonal romantic lyric.
