The bhuang is a strikingly simple yet powerful tribal instrument — a single hemp string stretched over a curved wooden bow, with a dried gourd (tumba) lashed beneath it as a resonator. Its making takes weeks, since the wood, bamboo and gourd must first be dried and whittled.
