Kaushalya was an actress-singer active in Hindi cinema through the 1940s and into the early 1950s, performing as an on-screen and playback singer across a range of social and mythological films of the era. Her mother, Daya Devi, was also an actress in Hindi films, and the two appeared together on screen, including in Ghar Ki Laaj (1941), where Kaushalya sang the duet 'Hum Gaayein Tum Naacho.'

Kaushalya's other film credits as a singer include Bharat Milap (1942), a mythological production scored by Shankar Rao Vyas; Rai Saheb (1942); Kurbaani (1943); Zaban (1943), for which she recorded songs including 'Kaagaz Ki Thi Wo Naav' and 'Tera Ghonsla Bikhra Re Panchi'; the social drama Chiraag (1943); and Mouj (1943), where she sang 'Koyaliya Kuhu Kuhu Bole' with music by Vasant Desai and lyrics by A. Karim. She continued to appear in films into the following decade, including Aaina (1944), Nai Bhaabhi (1950), and Tamasha (1952).
