जी. वी. प्रकाश कुमार

G. V. Prakash Kumar is a composer, singer and actor from Chennai, and one of the most decorated film musicians of his generation in South India. A nephew of A. R. Rahman — his mother A. R. Reihana is Rahman's elder sister — he entered films as a child singer on his uncle's soundtracks before making his composing debut at nineteen with Veyil (2006). Over the following two decades he built a formidable Tamil filmography, with acclaimed scores for Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, Asuran, Soorarai Pottru, Vaathi and Amaran, earning two National Film Awards — Best Music Direction (Score) for Soorarai Pottru and Best Music Direction for Vaathi — along with multiple Filmfare and SIIMA honours. In Hindi cinema he first drew notice with the earthy, folk-inflected music of Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He returned to Bollywood with Kangana Ranaut's political drama Emergency (2025), composing songs such as 'Singhasan Khali Karo' — built on Ramdhari Singh Dinkar's famous protest poem — 'Sarkar Ko Salaam Hai' and 'Shankhnaad Kar'. Since 2015 he has also had a parallel career as a leading man in Tamil films, beginning with the horror hit Darling.
