वो न सुने जो हाल-ए-ज़ार

'Wo Na Sune Jo Hale Zaar' is one of the ten documented songs of Kaljug (1942), the Hind Pictures social drama directed by and starring Nazir with Sitara Devi. Rafiq Ghaznavi composed the entire score to Hasrat Lakhnavi's lyrics. The phrase 'hal-e-zaar' (wretched condition) is a classical ghazal staple, marking this as one of the soundtrack's most overtly Urdu, lament-driven numbers; the singer is unrecorded in surviving sources.

An explicitly Urdu ghazal was Rafiq Ghaznavi's natural ground as a composer-singer steeped in that tradition. He would have given the line room to breathe, the sarangi answering each phrase of grief, the tabla restrained, so the singer could draw out the long vowels of 'zaar' in the elongated, melisma-rich manner of the period's ghazal style.
