Raj Shekhar is a Hindi film lyricist from Madhepura, Bihar, whose grounded, literary Hindi has made him one of the most distinctive songwriting voices to emerge in the 2010s. After studying Hindi literature in Delhi and working as an assistant to filmmakers including Aanand L. Rai, he made his debut with Rai's Tanu Weds Manu (2011), where songs like 'Yun Hi', 'Rangrez' and 'Sadi Gali' announced a fresh, rooted idiom drawn from small-town North India. He returned for Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) and went on to write for Hichki, Veere Di Wedding and the acclaimed period horror Tumbbad (all 2018), as well as Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). His 'Pehle Bhi Main' from Animal (2023) became one of the year's biggest hits, while 'Aise Kyun' and 'Ishq Hai' from the Mismatched series found a devoted young streaming audience. Recent credits include Crew (2024), Deva (2025) and Saiyaara (2025). With more than a hundred songs to his name, he remains one of the busiest and most respected lyricists in contemporary Hindi film music.
