जी. पी. कपूर

G.P. Kapoor was a composer and filmmaker of the studio era whose best-documented work is the score of Bharosa (1940), Sohrab Modi's social melodrama for Minerva Movietone. For that film he set the songs of lyricist Lalchand Bismil to music, with numbers such as "Bhor Bhai Uth Jaag Re Manwa" and "Kaahe Roki Baat Hamari Krishna Murari" rendered by singers including Sardar Akhtar and Sheela. Two years later he moved into direction with Nazrana (1942), a film he both directed and scored, and which is widely cited as the first Rajasthani (Marwari-language) feature film. The same year he received a composer credit on Ulti Ganga (1942), and film databases also associate him with Dev Kanya (1946) and, as director, Rajmahal (1953). Like many craftsmen of the 1940s studio system, his personal details — birth, death, training — went unrecorded, and he is remembered today chiefly through the credits of the films themselves.
