Mitti (मिट्टी) is the reflective, elegiac counterpoint to Fighter's (2024) high-energy singles — a patriotic ballad in which composer duo Vishal-Shekhar step away from the mixing desk to sing the track themselves, with lyrics by Kumaar. Unlike lead singles 'Sher Khul Gaye' and 'Ishq Jaisa Kuch,' which dropped weeks ahead of the film to build buzz, Mitti was held back and released on 1 February 2024 — a week after Fighter's 25 January theatrical opening — arriving at the point in the film where the Air Dragons squadron absorbs a devastating loss. A separate rendition, 'Mitti (Suresh Wadkar Version),' featuring veteran playback singer Suresh Wadkar alongside Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, was released as a standalone single after the film's theatrical run.

Vishal-Shekhar score Mitti as a stripped-back departure from Fighter's disco-pop singles — a slow-building patriotic ballad anchored by cello (played by Leo Olavio Velho and Sujan Chettri) rather than the synth-and-drum-machine chassis of 'Sher Khul Gaye' or 'Ishq Jaisa Kuch.' The composer duo sing lead themselves, a choice that lends the track an unpolished, personal register befitting its subject. The track was produced by Abhijit Nalani, mixed by Eric Pillai, with song direction by Robbie Grewal — the same production team behind the album's other singles, here working in a more restrained, orchestral register.

Kumaar's lyrics work the title image — mitti, or soil, a recurring symbol of the motherland in Hindi patriotic songs — into a debt-and-repayment structure: 'Le teri mitti tujhe lauta di, tera qarz chukaya hai, kabhi dushman ke aage jhuka na sar jo, tere aage jhukaya hai' (I've returned your soil to you, I've repaid my debt — the head that never bowed before the enemy, I've bowed it before you). The verse reframes a soldier's sacrifice not as loss but as settlement — the body returning to the earth it came from, the head that stayed unbowed in battle finally bowing only to the nation itself.

Mitti arrived as Fighter's fifth soundtrack offering, released on 1 February 2024 — a week after the Siddharth Anand-directed film opened in theatres on 25 January. Positioned at the narrative point where the Air Dragons squadron, led by Hrithik Roshan's Squadron Leader Shamsher 'Patty' Pathania and Anil Kapoor's Group Captain Rakesh 'Rocky' Jaisingh, absorbs the aftermath of a devastating attack, the song functions as an in-film tribute to fallen and surviving air warriors rather than a promotional dance number. Its post-release timing — unlike 'Sher Khul Gaye' and 'Ishq Jaisa Kuch,' both released weeks before the film to build buzz — reflects its role as an emotional payoff rather than a marketing hook.
