'Basant Bita Jaye' is one of the eight recorded songs of Jadui Kismat (1944), the A. M. Khan action-musical scored by the team of Behram Irani and Damodar Sharma to lyrics by Ehsan Rizvi. Its title, addressing the passing of the spring season (basant), places it in the long tradition of Hindi-film seasonal songs that map a turning year onto a turning heart.
