Roshni (रौशनी) is a hope-tinged ballad from the 2023 Hindi thriller Lost, sung by Papon with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire and music by Shantanu Moitra, released by Zee Music Company on 7 February 2023 ahead of the film's 16 February ZEE5 premiere. Speaking about the track, Papon — who marked his first collaboration with director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury on Lost's music — described Roshni as 'a song of finding the light within,' framing it as a moment of inner clarity within the film's otherwise tense, mystery-driven narrative around Yami Gautam's journalist protagonist. Alongside KK's posthumously released Mon Re and Madhubanti Bagchi's Zara Hat Ke, Roshni forms part of a soundtrack built almost entirely on introspective, character-driven songs rather than conventional romantic or dance numbers — a choice that matched the film's restrained, noir-adjacent tone.

Shantanu Moitra keeps Roshni in a restrained, mid-tempo register that leans on Papon's distinctive warm, slightly rasped vocal texture — a voice long associated with introspective, folk-inflected Hindi film music from Barfi! to Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani. The arrangement avoids dramatic crescendos, instead letting the melody build gradually in a way that mirrors the lyric's theme of slowly arriving at clarity rather than a sudden epiphany, consistent with the understated instrumental palette Moitra used across the rest of the Lost soundtrack.

Swanand Kirkire's lyric is built on the simple, repeated image of newly-found light ('mil gayi mujhe roshni, ek nayi-nayi roshni') — a deliberately plain vocabulary choice that keeps the song accessible rather than reaching for elaborate metaphor. Papon's own framing of the song as being about 'finding the light within' points to Kirkire's writing being interpreted as an interior, almost meditative journey rather than a literal description of external illumination, fitting the introspective character studies that define much of the Lost soundtrack.

Lost, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, follows journalist Vidhi Sahni (Yami Gautam) as she investigates the disappearance of a young theatre activist amid political and media pressures, with Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Neil Bhoopalam and Pia Bajpiee in supporting roles; the film had a brief theatrical run before premiering on ZEE5 on 16 February 2023. Its notability rests less on numbers and more on being part of a soundtrack remembered for KK's posthumous Mon Re, and as an example of Papon's continued work in reflective, non-romantic Hindi film songwriting alongside his better-known folk-pop and playback hits.
