Chidiya is a 2025 Hindi-language neo-realistic drama written and directed by Mehran Amrohi. Set in the teeming chawls of Mumbai, the film follows two young brothers — Shanu and Bua — whose discovery of a badminton birdie at a film studio ignites an improbable dream. Despite grinding poverty, an absent father, and the indifference of bureaucratic systems, the boys receive fierce maternal support from their mother Vaishnavi (Amruta Subhash) and find allies in their colourful chawl community. The film avoids the conventional redemption arc of poverty narratives, instead presenting the boys' circumstances with the dignity of observed reality: the dream matters not because it will certainly be achieved but because the dreaming itself constitutes a full human life. Principal photography was completed in 2015 across Mumbai chawls, FTII campus, and Kamal Amrohi Studio. The film had its world premiere at the Zlín Film Festival (Czech Republic) in May 2016 and spent nearly a decade in distribution limbo before Reliance Entertainment brought it to Indian audiences on May 30, 2025, where it received near-universal critical acclaim (3.5–5 stars). It is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The four-song soundtrack, composed by Shailendra Barve, reflects the film's neo-realistic aesthetic — acoustic instrumentation, folk textures, and emotional directness without cinematic inflation. Director Mehran Amrohi personally wrote two of the four songs ('Aye Dil Ki Nanhi Chidiya' and 'Dono Taraf Sannata'), deepening the album's autobiographical quality. Lyricist-actor Jitendra Joshi contributes the remaining two. The standout 'Aye Dil Ki Nanhi Chidiya', sung by Divya Kumar, became a gentle signature for the film's tender humanism; the album's longest and darkest track, 'Dono Taraf Sannata' (Vijay Prakash, 4:17), offers a quiet emotional devastation. Amruta Subhash's performance earned particular recognition. The soundtrack — especially 'Aye Dil Ki Nanhi Chidiya' (Divya Kumar) and 'Dono Taraf Sannata' (Vijay Prakash) — found appreciative streaming audiences who responded to its uncommercial, folk-grounded aesthetic.
