A Malayali schoolteacher named Parima is brutally assaulted in Delhi. The ensuing courtroom drama follows advocate Raavi Huskar's battle within a flawed and indifferent justice system, while a parallel narrative involving a mysterious vigilante known as the Umbrella Man emerges against a backdrop of growing public outrage. Directed by Anubhav Sinha — who has made Mulk (2018), Article 15 (2019), and Thappad (2020) — Assi is his most sustained examination of institutional failure and individual moral courage. The film received 90% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes but underperformed commercially, earning approximately ₹13.43 crore against a ₹30 crore budget.

The Assi soundtrack features two songs: Mann Hawa (composed by Rochak Kohli, lyrics by Kumaar, sung by Mohit Chauhan, Parampara Tandon, and Kohli) and Maai Teri Yaad (written, composed, and sung entirely by Swanand Kirkire). Ranjit Barot is credited as the overall music director, handling the background score, while the two songs have separate composer credits. Soundtrack released February 1, 2026 under T-Series.

Assi is notable as the third collaboration between Anubhav Sinha and Taapsee Pannu (after Thappad and Haseen Dillruba), and as one of the few 2026 Bollywood releases to receive near-universal critical acclaim despite commercial underperformance. Its two-song soundtrack — both deeply purposeful — represents Sinha's continued resistance to the commercial film convention of using music primarily for marketing.
