नरेन चंदावरकर मुंबई में रहने वाले संगीतकार, साउंड डिज़ाइनर और निर्माता हैं, और ब्रिटिश वायोला-वादक बेनेडिक्ट टेलर के साथ प्रसिद्ध संगीत-जोड़ी 'नरेन एंड बेनेडिक्ट' के आधे हिस्से हैं। मूल रूप से बेंगलुरु के चंदावरकर ने सेंट ज़ेवियर्स कॉलेज से पढ़ाई की और अनुराग कश्यप की 'दैट गर्ल इन येलो बूट्स' के पार्श्व-संगीत से हिंदी सिनेमा में प्रवेश किया। 2009 में मुंबई में टेलर से मुलाक़ात के बाद इस जोड़ी ने दृश्य पर लाइव इम्प्रोवाइज़ेशन, अपरंपरागत वाद्यों और परिवर्तित ध्वनियों पर आधारित कार्यशैली विकसित की — 'शिप ऑफ़ थीसियस' के लिए मनचाही दबी हुई ध्वनि पाने को चंदावरकर ने एक बार पियानो में ऊन तक भर दी थी। शिप ऑफ़ थीसियस (2013), किल्ला (2014), उड़ता पंजाब (2016), न्यूटन (2017), ग़ोल, सोनचिड़िया (2019), लाल कप्तान, पाताल लोक, द डिसाइपल (2020), ट्रायल बाय फ़ायर, कोहरा, किलर सूप और हीरामंडी के लिए रचे उनके स्कोर को भारतीय फ़िल्म और स्ट्रीमिंग जगत में पार्श्व-संगीत का कद बढ़ाने का श्रेय दिया जाता है। संगीत-रचना के अलावा चंदावरकर निर्माता और साउंड डिज़ाइनर के रूप में भी काम करते हैं, जिसमें मूनवीव फ़िल्म्स शामिल है, जिसकी मराठी फ़िल्म 'सबर बोंडा' (कैक्टस पेयर्स) का प्रीमियर 2025 में सनडांस फ़िल्म फ़ेस्टिवल में हुआ। उनके हालिया काम में 2026 की फ़िल्म 'द फ़ॉल' शामिल है, जिसमें वे और टेलर 'रहा दी धूड़' जैसे गीतों के लेखन और संगीत की ज़िम्मेदारी साझा करते हैं।

Naren Chandavarkar is a Mumbai-based composer, sound designer and producer, and one half of the acclaimed scoring duo Naren & Benedict with British violist Benedict Taylor. Originally from Bangalore, he studied at St. Xavier's College and entered Hindi cinema with the score for Anurag Kashyap's That Girl in Yellow Boots. After meeting Taylor in Mumbai in 2009, the pair developed a working method built on live improvisation to picture, unconventional instruments and treated sounds — Chandavarkar once stuffed wool into a piano to get the muted tone he wanted for Ship of Theseus. Their scores for Ship of Theseus (2013), Killa (2014), Udta Punjab (2016), Newton (2017), Ghoul, Sonchiriya (2019), Laal Kaptaan, Paatal Lok, The Disciple (2020), Trial by Fire, Kohrra, Killer Soup and Heeramandi form a body of work widely credited with raising the profile of the background score in Indian film and streaming. Beyond composing, Chandavarkar works as a producer and sound designer, including with Moonweave Films, whose Marathi feature Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2025. His recent credits include the 2026 film The Fall, on which he and Taylor share writing and composing duties for songs such as 'Rahaa Di Dhoorh'.
