मधुलाल दामोदर मास्टर

Madhulal Damodar Master (born 21 June 1903) was a music director in the early Hindi "talkie" film industry, active from its very beginning. He initially entered the film business hoping to work as a comedian, but instead found work as an assistant sound recordist and then assistant music director, before making his debut as an independent composer with the Krishna Tone Film Company production Navchetan (1932).

Over the following two decades he composed music for around 34 Hindi films, plus a handful of Gujarati films and documentaries, contributing roughly 267 songs in total. As tastes in film music shifted through the late 1940s, he found it difficult to adapt, and retired from film composing after his last release, Jungle Ka Jawahar (1952).

After leaving the film industry, Madhulal built a second career around puppet-making, eventually heading the Indian Institute of Puppetry and becoming its only Indian member recognized by an international puppeteers' organization; he is credited with having made the joker puppet later used by Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker (1970). He was found murdered at his home in Shivaji Park, Bombay, in June 1990; his family later said the killers were caught and prosecuted about a year afterward.
