The Monographजीवनी Biography

Lalit Pandit is a Hindi film composer best known as one half of Jatin–Lalit, the brother duo whose melodies defined the sound of 1990s Bollywood romance. The youngest son of a musical family from Pili Mandori village in Haryana's Hisar district, he is a nephew of the classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj and a brother of actress-singers Sulakshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit; he learned guitar and piano under Pyarelal of the Laxmikant–Pyarelal duo. Jatin–Lalit debuted with Yaara Dildara (1991) and went on to score landmark hits including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Mohabbatein (2000) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), composing roughly 473 songs across 72 films and earning about a dozen Filmfare nominations. The brothers parted ways after Fanaa (2006). Working solo, Lalit wrote and composed the blockbuster item number 'Munni Badnaam Hui' for Dabangg (2010), which brought him the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 2011 (shared with Sajid–Wajid). He has continued composing into the 2020s, most recently scoring songs such as 'Teri Yaadein', 'Gulfam' and 'Fanaa Hua' for the 2025 album Mannu Kya Karegga?, where he returned to the soft melodic idiom that made his 1990s work beloved.
