ओ नींद के मतवाले

'O Neend Ke Matwale' ('O one drunk on sleep') is one of the ten Himanshu Dutta songs in Bhaichara (1943) — its sleep-and-night imagery suggesting a soft, lullaby-adjacent number. Such tender, low-tempo pieces were natural territory for Dutta's melody-first style. The film's lyrics came from the shared pen of Kumar Vyas, Uday Shankar Bhatt, Ishwar Chandra Kapoor, M.R. Kapoor and Nazir Bedi.

Himanshu Dutta's grounding in the Bengali gramophone tradition — and its closeness to the Nazrul-Geeti idiom — favoured intimate, lightly-scored melodies in which the voice carries the mood. A sleepy nocturne of this kind would have leaned on a slow, lulling melodic curve over minimal percussion.
