A social drama from Madan Theatres, Hindustan examined themes of national identity, patriotism and domestic life in the twilight of the colonial era. Director Sorabji Kerawala worked with composer Nagar Das Nayak to give the film a distinctive musical texture, while lyrics credited to the legendary playwright-lyricist Agha Hashar Kashmiri — who had died in 1931 — may represent posthumous use of his verse. Leading lady Mukhtar Begum was one of Madan's celebrated singer-actresses whose voice was prized across Urdu theatre and early film. The film is considered lost.
