Rajan Batra is an Indian singer-songwriter and lyricist, best known as the vocalist and principal songwriter of the Mumbai-based alternative rock band The Yellow Diary. Before turning to music full-time, he worked as a cadet in the merchant navy. Originally from Delhi and now based in Mumbai, he met keyboardist-producer Himonshu Parikh, with whom he wrote and recorded the song "Marz"; the positive response it received led the pair to form a full band, later joined by Vaibhav Pani, Sahil Shah, and Stuart DaCosta, and signed to Sony Music India in 2017.
The Yellow Diary went on to release two EPs, Marz and Izafa, blending Indian classical melodic sensibility with contemporary rock arrangements; Batra's introspective, diary-like lyrics became a signature of the band's sound. Beyond the band's own releases, Batra has contributed as lyricist and singer to Hindi film and independent music, including the song "Buniyaad 2.0" (with Soumil Shringarpure and The Yellow Diary) from the Madhuri Dixit-starrer Maja Ma (2022), and the 2014 Hindi release "Kahaani."
