The songs of Raat Ki Rani (1935), Ranjit Studios' social drama directed by Raja Sandow, were composed by Ganga Prasad Pathak and Rewashankar with Narayan Prasad Betab's Urdu lyrics. The raat ki rani (night-blooming jasmine) title suffused the film with a nocturnal-romance atmosphere; Betab's dramatic verse and the Ranjit house sound gave the songs a polished melancholy characteristic of the studio's output.
