ये थान है मेरे सामने

This is the least recoverable of Bachpan's ten songs. It appears in the Wikipedia song list as 'Ye Than Hai Mere Samne' and on MySwar as 'Yeh Than Hai Mere Saamne', with no singer credit, no recording in circulation and no other trace. Even the Devanagari of the title is uncertain: the romanised 'Than' could stand for more than one Hindi word, and the reading used here is a literal transliteration rather than a verified original spelling. What is documented is the composer, S. N. Tripathi, and the lyricist, I. C. Kapoor.

Nothing is known about how this song was set. The one certainty is the format: like every commercial film song of 1945 it was cut to a single side of a shellac 78, roughly three minutes, and it was composed by S. N. Tripathi, who by then had been writing independent film scores since Chandan (1942). No transfer of the disc has appeared in any collector's archive, so raag, taal, tempo, instrumentation and the number of singers are all simply blank in the record.

Responsible description has to stop early here. The one part of the title that is unambiguous is 'mere saamne' — in front of me, before my eyes — which in Hindi lyric usually introduces either a confrontation or a revelation: something is present, and the speaker must now deal with it. The noun that precedes it cannot be fixed from the romanisation the catalogues carry, so the sense of the title as a whole is not established, and no text of the lyric has been located. Rather than invent a reading, this entry records what is known and marks the rest as open.

Bachpan was made by Homi Wadia's Basant Pictures, a studio then known for Fearless Nadia stunt pictures, and it is a social family drama instead: Bhairav (Mazhar Khan), embittered and living alone on a mountainside after his son married outside their caste, is slowly softened by Madhu (Baby Madhuri), the young niece a relative sends to live with him. Madhu is twice abducted — once by the aunt, who sells her as a companion to the wealthy invalid Kamla (Baby Shakuntala), and once by Kamla's jealous governess — and the film ends with the village schoolteacher Ramesh (B. Nandrekar) and his beloved (Chandraprabha) clearing Bhairav's name at the police station. I. C. Kapoor wrote the story, the dialogue and all ten song lyrics; S. N. Tripathi composed the score.

There is no afterlife to describe. The song was not reissued, no recording circulates, no writer has discussed it, and its title survives only because the Hindi Film Geet Kosh recorded the film's complete song list and later catalogues copied it forward. That is, in its way, the point: most of the roughly 1,700 songs registered for Hindi films in the mid-1940s exist today exactly like this — as a line of text, a composer and a lyricist.
