The Monographपरिचय Overview

Janiye (जानिए) is a soft, acoustic-pop romantic ballad from Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga (2023), the Netflix heist-thriller starring Sunny Kaushal, Ishwak Singh and Sharvari Wagh. Composed, written and sung by Vishal Mishra alongside singer Rashmeet Kaur, the song was released as a promotional single by Netflix Music on 17 March 2023, the same day the film premiered on the platform. Built on soft guitar fingerpicking and atmospheric piano chords rather than the film's heist-genre bombast, Janiye stands apart from the film's plot-driven tension as its emotional, romantic breather track, and its official Netflix India music video has gone on to accumulate hundreds of millions of YouTube views — an unusually large number for a single tied to a streaming-only release. The song was later recognised in Rolling Stone India's Top 30 Hindi Film Songs of 2023 list.
The Music

Vishal Mishra, who both composed and sang Janiye, keeps the arrangement deliberately sparse — soft acoustic guitar fingerpicking layered with atmospheric piano chords, a texture he has become known for across several 2020s Hindi film ballads. Rashmeet Kaur's voice pairs with Mishra's in a gentle duet exchange rather than a dramatic vocal showdown, letting the melody's warmth carry the song instead of instrumental flourish — a restrained, contemporary acoustic-pop register distinct from the more maximalist production typical of big-budget Bollywood soundtracks.
The Poetry

As his own lyricist, Vishal Mishra writes Janiye in a plain, direct register — the title word itself ('come to know/understand') framing the song as a gentle request for acknowledgment rather than a declaration. Phrases built around 'anjaani mulaqaatein' (unfamiliar/unexpected encounters) place the song in the classic Hindi film idiom of love arriving unannounced, a theme well-suited to the film's own plot of characters whose paths cross under unplanned, high-stakes circumstances.
The Story

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, directed by Ajay Singh, is a Netflix Original heist-comedy-thriller starring Sunny Kaushal, Ishwak Singh and Sharvari Wagh, following a diamond heist gone wrong that pits its characters against smugglers, corrupt officials and each other. Premiering on Netflix on 17 March 2023, the film leans on twist-driven plotting and an ensemble of double-crosses; Janiye is embedded as the soundtrack's romantic through-line, giving the audience a tonal breather from the heist mechanics and underscoring the relationship threads running beneath the caper plot.
The Legacy

Janiye's official Netflix India music video has drawn an outsized audience relative to its streaming-only film's box-office-free release model, crossing into the hundreds of millions of YouTube views and outperforming many theatrical soundtrack songs of the same year — a reflection of Vishal Mishra's growing standalone pull as a singer-songwriter independent of a film's own theatrical success. The song's inclusion in Rolling Stone India's Top 30 Hindi Film Songs of 2023 list further cemented its critical standing separate from the film's own more modest critical reception.
