The Monographपरिचय Overview

'Chale Charan More Kunjan Ki Ore' is a devotional number from the 1943 social drama Vijay Lakshmi, set to the imagery of feet carrying the singer toward the kunj — the bowers of Vrindavan associated with Krishna. It is one of only two songs from this thinly documented film that survive in reliable catalogues, and it is notable for being composed by G.M. Durrani, who is far better remembered as a singer than as a music director. Durrani lends the track his own voice, making it a rare instance of him both writing the tune and singing it.
The Music

The composition is by G.M. Durrani himself — a singer-composer turn that was uncommon for him. In keeping with the devotional theme and the period's gramophone aesthetics, the arrangement would have rested on harmonium and tabla with a sarangi shadowing the melody line, framing Durrani's clear, slightly nasal tenor in a measured, prayerful tempo rather than the brisk folk idiom that dominated wartime hits.
