अब्बू

Abbu (अब्बू) is a track from PRAA, the four-song collaborative EP by rappers Raftaar and Prabh Deep, released on 22 February 2023 on Kalamkaar — the independent Hindi hip-hop label operating under an exclusive partnership with Sony Music India since 2020. PRAA marked the first full collaboration between the two artists, who had originally planned a single song together before the sessions expanded into a complete EP. Abbu is one of the EP's more introspective cuts, built around a day-in-the-life refrain about work, routine and the promise of rest, delivered in Raftaar and Prabh Deep's signature Hindi-Punjabi-English blend that has defined much of India's independent rap scene since the mid-2010s.

Abbu rides a mid-tempo, understated hip-hop beat that leaves space for both rappers' distinct vocal textures — Raftaar's rhythmic, percussive delivery and Prabh Deep's more introspective, lower-register flow — to trade sections without crowding the arrangement, consistent with PRAA's overall production philosophy of restraint over maximalist trap sound.

The lyric's central refrain — 'shabba khair, abbu karenge araam' (good night, father will finally rest) — turns the daily cycle of alarms, milk, studio work and payment into a meditation on the relentless routine of providing for a family, with 'araam' (rest) framed less as a daily event and more as a distant, hard-earned goal.

Abbu is not tied to any film; it is one of four tracks on PRAA, the debut collaborative EP between Raftaar — one of Hindi hip-hop's most commercially established names — and Prabh Deep, a Delhi-based rapper known for introspective, socially conscious writing. The EP, released via Kalamkaar (the label co-founded to platform independent Hindi-Punjabi hip-hop, now partnered with Sony Music India), grew organically from a planned single into a full four-song project.

As a deep cut on the PRAA EP rather than its lead single (that role belonged to Trap Praa, which drew far higher view counts), Abbu has a smaller but dedicated listenership among fans who value it for its more personal, reflective songwriting compared to the EP's louder tracks — a common pattern in independent Hindi hip-hop where the highest-streaming track isn't always the most critically favoured one.
