जोड़ अलाप और झाला के बीच का एक महत्वपूर्ण मध्यवर्ती खंड है। अलाप जहाँ पूर्णतया अमापी (बिना ताल) होता है, वहीं जोड़ में एक स्पंदन (pulse) आ जाता है — हालांकि यह कोई निश्चित ताल नहीं होता। सितार पर जोड़ में चिकारी का प्रयोग स्पंदन देने के लिए किया जाता है। जोड़ अलाप की ध्यानमय शांति और झाला के उन्माद के बीच सेतु का काम करता है।

Jod is an important intermediate section between alaap and jhala. While alaap is completely unmetered, jod introduces a rhythmic pulse — though not a fixed taal. On sitar, the chikari strings are used to provide this pulse during jod. Jod bridges the meditative calm of alaap and the frenzy of jhala.
