संत तुलसीदास

A devotional biography of Goswami Tulsidas, the 16th-century poet-saint who composed the Ramcharitmanas. The film traces his spiritual journey from worldly attachment (his love for his wife Ratnavali) to complete renunciation and the composition of his life-work. In the bhakti-film tradition, the songs are as much the point as the narrative.

The score of Sant Tulsidas incorporates actual Tulsidas compositions (Ramcharitmanas verses, dohas) whose copyright is absolute public domain; these could be filmed with the full Avadhi/Hindi text intact.

Director attribution uncertain — Vijay Bhatt directed several saint-biographical films for Prakash Pictures in this period and is the most probable candidate, but requires verification.

Part of the 1930s–1940s strand of saint-biographical films (Sant Gyaneshwar 1940, Sant Dnyaneshwar 1940, Tukaram 1936 at Prabhat) that gave Indian cinema its most distinctively bhakti dimension. The songs were often compositions from the saint's actual oeuvre — Tulsidas's own dohas and chaupaais.

The sant-biographical tradition these films established is one of the distinctive contributions of pre-independence Hindi cinema to Indian cultural memory.
