Madan Theatres' Prahlad, directed by Priyanath Ganguly, dramatised the devotional legend of Prahlad — the child-devotee whose absolute faith in Vishnu confounded the tyranny of his demon-king father Hiranyakashipu. Distinct from the concurrent Bhakta Prahlad (1932) by Kanjibhai Rathod for Vishnu Pictures, this Madan production drew on Ganguly's Bengali film-theatre tradition and starred Kanan Devi in one of her early significant roles, providing the film its musical distinction through her already celebrated voice. The film spoke to audiences across religious divides for whom the Prahlad legend was foundational scripture.
