Following the success of the Gramophone Company's Indian recordings and the brief Nicole Record Company venture (1904-1905), Berlin-based Beka Record GmbH established its recording operations in India, primarily in Calcutta and Bombay. Over 300 Indian classical music recordings were made during Beka's Indian recording tour of 1905.

Legacy
Beka's recordings, though less commonly preserved than HMV recordings, represent an important diversification of the gramophone era's musical documentation. Several Beka recordings have been preserved and studied by the Archive of Indian Music and other institutions.
