स्थायी (या अस्थायी) किसी भी बंदिश (रचना) का पहला और मुख्य भाग है जो मंद्र और मध्य सप्तक में रहता है। यह बंदिश का 'मुखड़ा' या प्रारंभिक पंक्ति है जिससे रचना की पहचान होती है। स्थायी को बार-बार दोहराया जाता है और यह पूरी प्रस्तुति का केंद्र बिंदु होता है। हर तान, बोल-बनाव या आलाप के बाद गायक स्थायी पर लौटता है।

Sthayi (or Asthayi) is the first and main section of any bandish (composition) that stays in the mandra (low) and madhya (middle) octaves. It is the 'mukhda' or opening line that identifies the composition. Sthayi is repeated throughout and serves as the central anchor of the entire performance. After every taan, bol-banav, or alaap, the singer returns to the sthayi.
