Tu Hai Kahaan (तू है कहाँ) is the song that brought Lucky Ali back to Hindi film music after a nine-year silence — his first Bollywood recording since "Safarnama" (Tamasha, 2015) — paired with indie-rock band The Local Train, who wrote and composed the track as their first-ever film soundtrack contribution. Released as a single on 2 April 2024 ahead of Do Aur Do Pyaar's 19 April theatrical release, the song was recorded in Bengaluru, where Lucky Ali is based, with the band and singer working together in the same city rather than over a remote file exchange. It became one of the most written-about tracks of the soundtrack, less for chart performance than for the symbolism of the pairing: a veteran voice known for its restraint meeting a band candid about it being their own comeback after seven quiet years.

The Local Train — guitarist-lyricist Paras Thakur, bassist Ramit Mehra and drummer Sahil Sarin — built Tu Hai Kahaan as their first film composition and their first release of any kind in seven years, following the 2022 departure of original vocalist Raman Negi. Rather than write for their own voice, the trio composed around Lucky Ali's known register — his unhurried, breath-forward delivery — layering guitar, bass and drums under a melody the band has described as carrying "a certain bittersweet nostalgia." The result sits closer to the band's alternative-rock roots than to a conventional orchestral filmi ballad, a deliberate choice given this was explicitly commissioned as an original soundtrack piece rather than a reworked single.

The title line's question — "Tu hai kahaan" (where are you) — is framed through a small piece of wordplay in the opening lines: "laaparwaah" (careless) sits against "laapata" (missing), two words sharing the same "laap" root but pulling in different directions — one describes a person's indifference, the other their absence. It's a quiet, literate touch typical of a lyricist writing for a band's own catalogue rather than churning out a standard filmi mukhda-antara — restrained, image-light, built to carry Lucky Ali's understated delivery rather than compete with it.

Do Aur Do Pyaar (2024) is the directorial debut of Shirsha Guha Thakurta, an Indian adaptation of the 2017 American film The Lovers, produced by Applause Entertainment and Ellipsis Entertainment, and starring Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D'Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy as two unhappily married people each pursuing an affair. Tu Hai Kahaan was released as a promotional single on 2 April 2024, seventeen days ahead of the film's 19 April theatrical release. Lucky Ali has said he is selective about the film songs he agrees to sing, and that hearing the song's scratch demo was what convinced him: "I loved it and felt it would suit my voice." The recording itself took place over roughly ten hours in a Bengaluru studio near his home, rather than the more typical Mumbai session.

Tu Hai Kahaan's significance lies less in chart numbers than in what it marks for both its principal artists: Lucky Ali's first Bollywood playback credit since 2015's Safarnama, and The Local Train's first-ever film composition after seven years away from releasing new music following a lineup change. Music press coverage around the release focused heavily on this double-comeback framing rather than the song functioning as a conventional promotional chart hit. Within Do Aur Do Pyaar's soundtrack, it stands as the more introspective, band-driven counterpoint to the record's dance-pop singles — evidence of a mainstream Hindi film increasingly willing to hand a love theme to an independent rock act rather than a staff composer.
