Controll is the official Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil blockbuster Irumbu Thirai. An IMA cadet named Abhimanyu Shastri investigates the suicide of his friend and brother-in-law and uncovers a vast organised cybercrime and scamming network. Teaming up with fellow cadets, he works to dismantle the criminal operation and deliver justice to its victims. Distributed by Pen Studios and directed by Safdar Abbas, the film released theatrically on 10 October 2025. Critics gave mixed reviews — Firstpost and DNA both awarded 3/5 stars, praising Rohit Roy and Thakur Anoop Singh's performances while noting the film does not fully realise its socially relevant premise.

The Monographमहत्व Significance

Controll is significant as a Hindi adaptation of Irumbu Thirai (2018), one of Tamil cinema's most successful and socially urgent cybercrime thrillers — a film that warned mainstream audiences about organised digital fraud before it became a household concern. By bringing this narrative to Hindi mainstream audiences in 2025, the film addressed the now-epidemic problem of cybercrime through a popular genre vehicle. Bharat-Hitarth's score-driven approach — without a song album — suited the tension-first thriller format.
Legacy

Controll received mixed critical reception (3/5 stars from major publications), with Rohit Roy and Thakur Anoop Singh's performances praised while the screenplay was found to fall short of the Tamil original's impact. The theatrical release on October 10, 2025 yielded modest results, with the film performing below expectations. It nonetheless represents the ongoing commercial logic of bringing proven South Indian genre content to Hindi audiences — a pipeline that continues to drive Bollywood production strategy in the mid-2020s.
